Transor- One-micron filtration solution for ANCA FX Linear grinding machines

For the past 40 years, Transor has acquired a name in providing filtration systems for grinding oils used in high-quality, high-end machines like the ANCA FX Linear grinding machines. Cutting tool manufacturers use Transor filtration systems worldwide for tool and cutter grinding applications to remove HSS and carbide dust from grinding oils.

Transor India is a joint venture between Transor, Gmbh, and Innovation Filter System. Formed in October 2015, we have installed Transor systems with various tool and cutter grinding machines throughout India and Southeast Asia. Since 2015, Transor India has served 156 customers with 15 centralized systems and 75 small systems and counting.

Transor India has designed a filtration system specifically for ANCA FX Linear machines. Transor filtration systems work on the principle of ‘edge filtration,’ i.e., the filter elements trap carbide/HSS dirt at the edges or periphery and clean oil flows from outside-in.

We propose our TCF (Transor Compact Filter) elements for cutting tool manufacturers who only manufacture carbide tools.

We make TCF filter elements with approximately 5000 paper discs of 150 mm outer diameter stacked and compressed together. The total length of the filter element is 500 mm. It has a multi-channel geometry inside it to create a specific flow pattern for the grinding oil to flow. The multi-channel flow geometry allows a very high flow rate of 35 lit/min from 1 element (for grinding oils of 5 cst @ 40 deg C viscosity or lower) and can give 1-micron filtration at that flow rate. Moreover, we warranty these elements for one year of continuous operation since installation.

For cutting tool manufacturers who manufacture a mix of carbide and HSS tools, we propose our filtration systems with TB4 filter elements. Which element to use depends on a case-to-case basis as nobody can say for sure how much of the production volume will be HSS. However, as a rule of thumb, if the production volume is about 80% carbide, we can still use TCF. If the production volume is 50% HSS, then filtration systems with TB4 elements are recommended. In both the cases of TCF or TB4, using a high gauss magnetic separator as a pre-filter is always recommended.

Why are Transor filtration systems ideal for ANCA-FX Linear grinding machines

The incredible feature of Transor filtration systems is the long service life that customers can expect from Transor filter elements- TCF and TB4. We warranty the filter elements for one year from the installation date (provided customers follow all Transor recommendations). However, our experience says customers do not need to change them for multiple years. One of our customers changed the elements after eight years of system installation! Although that is an extreme case, on average, customers can expect a service life of 2 years from the date of installation.

Regeneration of Transor filter elements

Apart from the design and the material of the Transor filter elements, the most critical reason for the extraordinary service life of Transor’s filter elements is the ‘regeneration’ or ‘backwashing’ process. Passing dry compressed air inside the filter vessel removes the trapped carbide or HSS dirt particles inside the filter elements. Carbide sludge recovery in Transor filtration systems

It is a well-known fact that the supply of tungsten carbide is limited. Hence, we give importance to designing our filtration systems to recover carbide- as dry as possible. Our filtration system designs enable customers to recover significant value from the carbide dust scrap. To recover the scrap carbide, we propose two options in our systems.

1.Manual carbide recovery

In this type of system, we provide a sludge bag of a specially engineered material inside a sludge tank. Carbide/HSS dust dislodged during the backwash cycle is taken to the sludge tank. The sludge bag traps the carbide / HSS dust particles and allows the oil to drip slowly in the dirty oil compartment. Inside the sludge bag are 3-5 ‘sludge candles’, which are the same as TB4 filter elements- only smaller in length (300 mm). In Transor India systems, we suck the residual oil out of the sludge bag using an ingenious suction arrangement. The sucked residual oil flows back into the dirty oil compartment.

2.Automatic carbide recovery

For automated recovery, i.e., carbide recovery without any manual intervention, we can use a ‘scraper conveyor.’ In this type of system, instead of a sludge tank, the backwashed oil and carbide/HSS dust are taken inside a conveyor. The carbide dust settles inside the conveyor, which scrapes out relatively dry carbide. The residual oil in the conveyor is sucked out using the same arrangement as described above in manual recovery.
